## What is a neutralization reaction?

The reaction of acid and base which produces salt and water is called a neutralization reaction.

I.e

Acid + Base = Salt + water

The method is based on the fact that one gram equivalent of the acid completely neutralizes one gram equivalent of the base and vice-versa.

## How to find equivalent weight?

**Example:**

Calculate the equivalent weight of acid of volume **25**. The weight of acid is **15** grams and normality is **20**.

**Solution:**

**Step 1:** Identify the values.

Volume = 25

Weight = 15

Normality = 20

**Step 2:** Use the values on the formula.

Equivalent weight = weight / (volume * normality)

= 15 / (25 * 20)

**= 0.0300**
